Public Adjuster vs. Roof Reviewer: What's the Difference?

If you've been searching for help with a roofing situation, you've probably come across public adjusters and wondered if that's what we do too. It's a fair question — there's overlap in the goal (protecting you, the homeowner) but the jobs are genuinely different.

A public adjuster works your insurance claim. If your roof was damaged by a storm and you're filing a claim, a public adjuster represents you in negotiations with your insurance company to try to maximize your payout. They typically work on a contingency fee — a percentage of whatever the insurance company pays out. Their job starts and ends with the insurance claim itself.

RoofReviewers reviews your contractor's estimate. We're not involved with your insurance company at all. Our job is to look at the quote or contract you've received from a roofing contractor — whether you're paying out of pocket, through insurance proceeds, or a mix of both — and tell you whether the price is fair, where the contract has risky language, and what you should push back on before you sign. We work for you, not for a percentage of a claim.

When you might need both. If your roof was storm-damaged, it's common to use a public adjuster to fight for a fair insurance payout, and then use RoofReviewers to make sure the contractor you hire with that money isn't overcharging you or burying you in bad contract terms. They're not competing services — they cover two different points in the process, the claim and the contract.

When you only need us. If you're not filing an insurance claim at all — just shopping for a new roof and want to know if the price and contract are fair — a public adjuster isn't relevant to your situation. That's when RoofReviewers is the right (and only) call.

Either way, the common thread is the same: get someone in your corner who isn't selling you a roof. That's the whole point of independence, and it's why we don't accept referral fees from contractors.
